Community commitment and eco-friendly creativity came together beautifully on Sunday, 14th June, as Hornfair Park hosted the Family Fun Day Festival with a special focus on climate awareness.

Suzanne Maddison, owner of The Cat Butler Greenwich, stepped up to the challenge by running a fully sustainable stall to engage with local residents and support an amazing cause. Suzanne dedicated a long, rewarding day from 9:00 am until 6:00 pm to networking, sharing stories with local cat owners, and raising vital funds for RRats Cat Rescue / Sanctuary.

Eco-Friendly Cat Crafts and Clever Games

Because the festival focused heavily on climate awareness, Suzanne tailored her entire inventory to ensure items were either recyclable or crafted from sustainable materials.

A major highlight of the stall was a batch of custom, climate friendly resin cat coasters decorated with real dried flowers, which visitors were eager to win on the tombola game. To keep the fun going, Suzanne ran a series of entirely cat themed activities and products, including:

  • A "Name the Cat" competition featuring a prize pack containing a cuddly toy, a custom cat tote bag, and classic children's books like Tabby McTat, Slinky Malinki, and Mog. The winning name drawn on the day was Neptune!

  • A zero ended Tombola game where any ticket ending in a zero secured a prize, prompting fantastic engagement from families and retirees alike.

  • A range of plastic free merchandise including wooden cat ornaments for children to color, wooden pen pots, organic cotton makeup bags, aprons, cat cross-stitches, metal ring holders, and jewellery crafted from recycled materials.

The wind certainly tried its best to add some drama to the day, turning Suzanne's prominent roller banner into a giant sail. However, after securely tying it down to the gazebo frame, the stall remained a bustling hub for visitors all afternoon and evening.

Surpassing Goals for a Vital Local Cause

Thanks to the incredible generosity of the attendees and Suzanne's foresight in bringing along a card reader, which alone secured an extra £40 in card payments, she successfully raised £100 for the rescue!

Based in Thamesmead and operating across Southeast London, RRats Cat Rescue / Sanctuary is a dedicated, volunteer-run, no kill organization founded to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome stray and unwanted cats. Named playfully using the founder's surname and her children's initials, the rescue relies entirely on public support to give local felines a second chance at life.

Many local residents who stopped by already knew the rescue and its coordinator, Lucy, eagerly dropping off direct donations and praising their tireless work. To help the sanctuary further, Suzanne displayed custom leaflets detailing the rescue's background so that visitors could easily donate directly to their bank accounts.

Meeting New Feline Needs in Greenwich

Beyond the fundraising success, the day provided excellent networking opportunities with families, young professionals, and retired residents.

Suzanne encountered several unique cat-care scenarios that highlighted the value of a professional cat-sitting service. A few visitors expressed relief at finding a professional alternative to asking their busy parents to look after their pets, while a local hospital nurse highlighted a critical need for short-notice cat care when elderly patients are suddenly admitted to the hospital. Being located just five minutes away from the local hospital, Suzanne was able to distribute leaflets to ensure vulnerable residents' pets are well looked after in emergencies.

With fantastic music playing, delicious food stalls to sample, and a welcome break from the standard British rain, the festival was a resounding success for the Greenwich community.
