One of the first questions we ask during our initial meeting is, Where did you get your fur baby from? The majority are rescue cats and come from excellent organisations such as The Cats Protection Centre in Derby, RSPCA Derby or The Ark in Ashbourne. Other kitties previously belonged to family members who due to a change in circumstance can no longer offer them a home.
Other histories are a little more colourful! For example, I found my darling cat, Pearl cowering under a sun lounger in my garden in Dubai. Many cats are sadly abandoned in the UAE due to their owners leaving the country and this is what happened to Pearl. Luckily for her - and us - she had found an extremely loving home with the Campbells and on our return to England, she made the 4000-mile journey on an aeroplane to her new home in Derbyshire. Being a Russian Blue, we're sure she prefers the cold to the heat!
Also making the journey from the UAE are Twitch and Breeze, rescued from a building site in Abu Dhabi and now living the purr-fect life in Derbyshire. Another client told us how he brought his cat - Rocket - from France, making a long journey with her safely in a cat backpack, and having a fur-raising experience on the steep escalators of the London Underground. Another kitten was rescued from the inside of an abandoned church where she was stuck behind a wall.
Whichever way your kitty came to be part of your family, it's certainly true to say they enrich our lives every day and we are blessed to be feline parents.
